In the early dealings in sterling in the foreign exchange market the appreciation continued, and the rate against United States dollars rose from yesterday's closing rate of 3.71 i dollars to over 3.77 dollars. Against French francs there was a similar improvement, from 94£ to OSA. Speculative activity later dominated the market, and the rates fluctuated considerably.
