BOROUGH COUNCILS
WAIMATE. At the usual meeting of the Waimato Borough Council there was a lull attendance, the Mayor (Mr George Dash) presiding. The Unemployment Board wrote advising that the Council might employ relief labour under Scheme No. 5 to construct kerbing and channelling on soma of the borough streets, providing none of the Council's ordinary employees had been discharged recently in anticipation of this and other work being carried out by relief labour. The South * Canterbury Advisory Committeee under the Disabled Soldiers Civil ReEstablishment Act, 1930, [wrote stating it had lists of men for every - avenue of employment. and asking that application be made to the committee should any sort of position offer. The Waimate High School Board wrote drawing attention to flooding occurring under the school buildings and in the cellar owing to the unsatisfactory nature of the drainage of flood water flowing from Queen street to Paul street. The nuisance occurred whenever there was sufficient rain to cause surface water. It was. asked that improvement be effected. The Sanitary Committee's report recommended the planting of trees at the septic tank outlet. Authority was given for the purchase of 500 trees for planting. The Waimate Amateur Athletic Club was granted the use of Victoria Park for the annual fixture to be held on Easter Saturday, March 26th. |
