WAIMAKARIRI-ASHLEY WATER SUPPLY BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the VVai-makariri-Ashley Water Supply Board was held on Monday. Present: —Messrs Jas. Brown (chairman), J. F. Dawson, F. A. Sheat, Geo, Wayland, and J. Waller. The secretary reported that a new protective grating had been put in at the Eyre syphon. Work had been resumed in the Oxford and Rangiora districts under the No. 5 Unemployment Scheme. * The supply of water had been greatly increased in the main race, and had been greatly appreciated 'by ratepayers during the long dry spell. Owing to the Board's intake in the Cust river having gone dry, it had been found necessary to use the water from the Stoke Settlement private race. An agreement had now been come to with the settlers to have the permanent use of the water from the race and the District Commissioner of Crown Lands had consented to the Water Supply Board taking over the control of the intake to the Settlement race. It was decided to abandon the old intake and to erect a regulating to control the supply to the settlement race, also to construct a concrete wall on either side to' prevent scout. Several applications _ for increased supplies of water to various properties were dealt with, and it was decided that wherever possible to give permission for the extension of races. _ It was resolved to lay 12-inch pipes in an old water course to carry flood water under the main race at Oxford. The secretary was instructed to place all outstanding water charges for the year 1930-31 in the hands of the Board's solicitor for recovery. Tt was decided to make the annual inspeqtion of headworks at Brown 8 Rock on April 4th. Accounts amounting to £446 5s 9d were passed for payment.
