CHILD ABANDONED.

WOMAN SENTENCED. (miss association TBtsa*As».). WELLINGTON, March 8. Ivy Thclma Leigh, aged 22, appeared in the Supreme Court for sentence for abandoning her child ,at St. Barn&bas's Home, Khandallah, last /nonth. Counsel said a Chinese admitted paternity and was willing to marry the girl, who was also prepared to follow this course. Mr Justice Ostler said he was not prepared to think that this was desirable and refused probation. He said the offence should be expiated, and after that the girl would be free to act as she liked. He imposed a sentence af two years' Borstal treatment.
