Fierce rioting occurred at Srinagar, Kashmir, where thousands of Moslems, infuriated by the arrest of theii; leader, attempted to storm the Maharajah's Palace. State troops aided the police to quell the disturbance. They were fiercely attacked by mobs, who fanatically disregarded repeated cavalry charges and overwhelmed small detachments of troops. They killed or injured many riders. Scores of rioters were wounded.
