♦ . CONFERENCE OF AMERICAN LEGION. (VKITEn PRESS ASSOCIATION—3Y ELECTRIC TELEORAI'H—COPYRIGHT J DETROIT (Michigan), September 23. The American Legion Annual Convention to-day commended the Hoover War Moratorium and urgcid Congress to act upou the debt holiday promptly. The Resolutions Com'mittoo. voted to place before the convention a resolution asking Congress to request the vnrious States to hold a referendum on the quostion of modification of the Prohibition law.
APPEAL TO PRESIDENT. (Received September 24th, 5.5 p.m.) DETROIT, September 23. Resolutions of the Committee of the American Legion approved of proposals urging President Hoover to declare a state of national emergency and to appoint a non-partisan council of national defence with war-time powers to end "unrest, indecision, and the dissatisfaction of the present economic crisis." The American Legion to-day instructed its Legislative Committee to se<'k the passage of a I&w to prevent an estimated .3.000,000. aliens who entered the country illegally frotq working or doing business in the United States.
