The Arbitration Court commences tomorrow the hearing of the application lodged by the New Zealand Employers' Federation, under the terms of the Finance Act, 1981, for the issue 'of a general order reducing the wages paid under various awards of the Court. The amount of the reduction suggested has not been disclosed. The case for the employers will be handled by the secretary of the Federation, Mr T, 0. Bishop, who will open the proceedings with a statement setting out the reasons for the application.

Mr J. McCotnbs, M.P., and 3lr WT. Young, secretary of the Wellington Woollen Mills Employees' Union, and formerly secretary of the New Zealand Seamen's Federation, will- state the case on behalf of the Trades Councils' Federation. A representative of the Alliance of Labour will also appear, as well as advocates on behalf of particular unions.
