FEDERAL ACTION EXPLAINED. RESTRICTION OF MIGRATION. ("EXITED PRESS ASSOCIATION—BY ELECTEIO TELEGRAPH —COPYRIGHT.) (Received December 10th, 9.30 p.m.) CANBERRA, December 10. In the House of Representatives, the Minister for Home Affairs, Mr A. Blakeley, made a statement concerning the prohibition of Italian migrants. He said that while the Commonwealth had already overlooked the case of a number of Italians, who, in th« past, had entered the Commonwealth irregularly, those now arriving would be prevented from landing, in accordance with a new agreement made with the Italian Government, under which only female relatives and children of those already in Australia were permitted to enter.

MORE REFUSED PERMISSION TO LAND. SYDNEY, December 10. The Consul-General for Italy, Signor A. Grossardi, interviewed the Minister for Home Affairs, ivir A. Blakelcy, at Canberra, on the subject of Italian immigration. Neither would make a statement conoerning the matters dismissed. It is said that Signor Grossardi appealed for the men on the Orford and the partv on the Otranto to be allowed to land. A Perth message states that the Otranto has arrived with a large batch of aliens. 101 of whom are Italians. Thev were prevented from landing, and will be returned to their home country as soon as possible.
