The Palmerston North Chamber ot Commerce yesterday afternoon passed •i resolution urging Cabinet to make the coupon system illegal.—Press Association. The vocational guidance bureau which has been established for the past lour years at the Y.M.C.A. during the Christmas holidays will again be in operation this year. ''Do you reckon that if the lietorm Party went in, wool would go up<" asked a questioner at the political meeting of Mr D. Jones, M.P., at Methven last evening. There was a .shout of laughter at the question, but Mr Jones remained silent. A reminder that the festive season is not far away was given nt last night's meeting of the Christchurcli Fire Board, when the sum of £5 was voted to the Brigade for what the chairman (Mr J. It. Cameron) termed "Christmas cheer." Before the Board rose the chairman also extended to members liis wishes for a merry Christinas.
At a recent meeting of tho Marlborough Automobile Association, Dr. W. E. Redman referred to u very effective warning system in use in the Nelson district, where large red reflectors were placed nt had bends in the roads. The rays of a car's lights, striking the reflectors, brought their red warning into play, and served to guard adequately dangerous places. Members of the Tramway Hoard us] ted the Board's workshop yesterday afternoon ami inspected tlio chassis for one of tile trolley buses to be operated shortly on the North Beach route. The chassis has been mounted on its wheels and is ready to be handed over to the contractors tor the bodies, Messrs Boon and Co., tor the assembling of the first trolleybus. An interesting exhibit is to be seen in luvcrcargill. It is a piece of wood which 130 years ago formed part of the hull of the Endeavour. This vessel was wrecked at Dusky Sound in 1795, and has been under water ever since. A diver recently retrieved a small portion of the hull. Considering that it was for over a century lying at the bottom of the sea, it took polish remarkably well. The relic will be given '.a the Southland Museum.
