* BOROUGH WORKS. The construction of new concrete kerbing in Oxford utreet from London street to Ripon street is now nearing | completion. The next operation will be the construction of similar kerbing in Canterbury street. Proficiency Examinations. The proficiency examination for pupils of the Lyttelton public schools, the Convent schools, and several Peninsula schools was held at the Lyttelton District High School yesterday. The other pupils in the primary department of the Lyttelton District High School were given a holiday for the day. Training College Picnic. A party of 300 students from the Teachers' Training College will hold a picnic at Diamond Harbour to-morrow. Harbour Light Theatre. "Let's Go Places," a sparkling alltalking and singing comedy, starring Lola Lane and Sharon Lynn, is the chief attraction at the Harbour Light Theatre to-night. The supporting programme includes a comedy and Fox News. On Saturday, "The Night Ride," a mystery drama, featuring Joseph Schildkraut and Barbara Kent, will be screened, together with a Paramount News and comedy. Cycling. The popularity of cycle road-racing among the youths and boys a* Lyttelton has resulted in several of the fair sex becoming interested in the sport, and a girls' road race will be held on Saturday afternoon. Already some • f the girls are to be seen training in the evenings on the usual road-racing machines. A hill-climbing competition for youths will be held on Saturday afternoon on the Bridle Path.
