THE POTATO MARKET.
TO THE EDITOR OT THE PItESS Sir,—The Government has been crying out for more production, and still more production, until the country is about sick of it, but what we need is more and better markets. Take potato culture. I suggest that the wise farmer will proceed cautiously along this line, as a great many farmers are going head first for the pure seed certificate by which it is reckoned by many that the yield will be increased from 50 to 100 per cent. Now, if that is so, there is onlv one possible result, and that is an absolute slump. It would be far more prontable to grow five tons per acre at £4 than 10 tons at £1 10s. In other words we won't gain anything by glutting t&e market.—Yours, etc., . A. DENISON. December 2nd, 1930.
