THE FARMER.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE I'll7.MS Sir,—As a trustee in an estate where the investments have been secured o n a first mortgage on rural land with a considerable margin of value assure by a valuation made at the time when the loan was made, I find that to-day the valuation is not worth anything, and that the security will not realise the amount of the loan. No interest can be obtained from the borrower, who lias not even been able to pay Land Tax, to secure which the government has a first charge on the property. I mention these facts, as we are awaiting an indication bv our P res Government that the affairs of Dominion are in grave danger and need immediate attention. \\ hen beneficiaries in estates realise the above facts, it is possible some stir may be made to have our affairs seen to before the greatdisaster happens. The farmer has lonsr been suffering, but his inability to carry the community on his back has now brought him to this pass. The trouble necessarilv affects the whole community as we are now commencing to realise. Hjit can any impression be made on tn existine moribund Government to Ra - vnnise it 3 members from fear to action My purpose in writine is to show that th'oneh we may be callous j" J® farmer's fate, we all. are so d™endent on him that surprising troubles are imminent over and above unemploy ment.—Yours, etc., gMART.
