TASMAN YACHT RACE.
ACCEPTANCE OF CHALLENGE. iraiss association tblegram.) AY ELLINGTON. November 25. Tfc has been announced that Mr J. McLean, owner of the Wellington yacht Restless, is prepared to accept the challenge issued by Mr F. J. Bennall, of Melbourne, owner of the yacht Oimara, for a trans-Tasfhan race. Mr is willing to match ; his boat against the Oimara in a sailing race, either from Wellington to Syd nev or Melbourne, and back, if <■- sired, or round New Zealand. The course and the date of the race have yet to be arranged. Mr McLean intends to insist that both boats be piloted by amateurs,' as he wishes to see the race made truly a sporting event. Another stipulation will be that not more than 20 gallons of benzine may be carried on each boat for use only in emergency. It is suggested that as Mr Bennall has stated his intention of crossing the Tasman in the near future, he should arrive at Auckland just before Christmas, and take part in the Auckland regatta, and then come on to Wellington.
