SUMNER BOROUGH PICNIC.
PRELIMINARY ARRANGEMENTS. The Mayor (Mr W. H. Nicholson) presided ovtT a fair r.ttendance of residents at Sumner lost evening, when preliminary arrangements in connexion with the annual school and borough picnic were discussed. The Mayor said that the fact that the picnic was a borough, as well as a school affair, was very often overlooked, arid nil would agree that the picnic had become an Institution in tho borough. He thought that it would be possible to arrange foi- n c'mmittee to make the initial arrangements, es in the past. Mr H. E. Crawshaw moved that tho annual picnic be held. This was seconded oy Mrs u. P. Longuet and carried. It was decided that the committee should comprise three representatives from fach see* tion of the community. Mr K. G. Shriopton moved ihat the meeting should invitr the Redcliffs and Mount Pleasant schools, and the School for the Deaf to join in the movement to make tho picnic a borough fixture, and to appoint iepreaentatives to the borough committee. This was agreed to. Some discussion took place with reference to the best place to hold the picnic, and a recommendation was made that the outing be held at the Riccarton racecourse. Mr J. Browno said that he would like to see all children transported free, and this was also made • recommendation to the committee.
