I EVENING MEETING. IMPROVED FORM SHOWN. Favoured again with fine weather and fast 1 racks, tho third evening meeting of tho season was held at Lancaster Park yesterday, when the 'Varsity Athletic Club con* trolled the events. Racing was of a high standard, and although dairies were not as lurge as could have been wished tor, ©vents were well contested. With two laps covered, he was in a handy position, and lengthening out with three hundred yards to go, moved ahead without opposition, to win by thirty-live yards in 4mm 40 2*ssec. \V. L. Sargison (tiydeuham), the virtual scratch uiau, lasted only two laps before tiring badly. K. J. Stuck and A. Mather, second and third respectively, ran theinscives all out, and finished at a siow jog. A stronger C.A.A.C. team was in the lead from start to finish in the A grade relay, and although for u time in the last quarter it appeared that O. 0. Harley ('Varsity) might draw level with It. Cordery (C.A.A.0.), the latter came up the straight well, and running an improved quarter, finished ten yards in the lead. Sumner were in second place for a time, but dropped back over the third and fourth distances, being fifteeu yards behind at the end. The li grade relay provided an interesting race, and as was the case in previous meetings, thro-} teams were on even terms for the greater part of the distance. A fine run by L. G. Blacktnore gave his team a lead of ten yards from Sumner, Builivant increasing it to twenty-five, and 'Varsity coming level with Sumner after the second quartrr. P. A. M. Williams made up some of 'Varsity's lost ground, but Cordery went away fifteen yards before O. C. Harley, the latter being unable to catch him, and C.A.A.C. winning by ten yards.
