SCHOOL TENNIS. The second round of the primary schools' tennis competition was played this week, when North Beach played Main Brighton, the match going to Main Brighton by 7 sets to 0. The results were (North Beach names first): — Girls' Singles—lt. Uren 6 beat R. Barry 1; S, Marriott 6 beat N. Marriott, 2; M. Tait 6 beat J. Dunean 1; M. Stevens 3 lost to O. Turner 6. Boys' Singles—Tom Lilley 2 lost to Jack Hay 6; Maurice Richards 0 lost to Geo. Horwell 6; Douglas Meier 0 lost to Harry Wilkins 6; C. Coburn 1 lost to Douglas Cocks 6. Girls' Doubles—K. Uren and S, Marriott 9 beat R. Barry and N. Marriott; M. Tait and M. Stevens 9 beat J. Duncan and O. Turner, Boys' Doubles—T. Lilley and M. Richards 1 ]o>st to Hay and Harwell 9; Meier and Coburn 1 lost to Wilkins and Cocks 9. Pinal score—North Beach 5, New Brighton 7. Borough Work. The screenings have been graded on the Esplanade north of Lonsdale street, also on Racecourse road, Marriott's road, Saltaire street, Jubilee avenue Baker street, and Park road. Road repairs have also been made in Kookwood avenue. Obituary. Mrs E, A. M. Leaver, oi Osborne terrace, North Beach, was born in Timaru in 1872 and was a daughter of the late Robert Scarf of Nortii street, ono of the pioneers' of Timaru. She was married in 1898 and after living in Ohristcliureh for several years removed to North Beach and with her husband took a keen interest in the progress of North Beach. Mrs Leaver took an active interest in the Phillipstown Ivindergarteri School, the North Brighton branch of the W.C.T.O. and the "Y" branch; which was started in her home. She was also a member of the Rechabite Order and assisted in the formation of the Pride of Linwood Juvenile Tent and the Sunshine Tent at North Beach, and for several years represented the Pride of Linwood Tent on the Canterbury Band of Hope Union
