MARRIED WOMEN TEACHERS.

APPOINTMENT OPPOSED. » 'PRESS ASSOCIATION TBLEGEAiI.) OAM ARU, Novemlper 14. The principle of the appointment of married women teachers was strongly opposed at a well-attended meeting of householders at the Totara Sehpol last night. ' The discussion arose as, a result of a proposal to appoint a young married woman, whose husband is in a good position and who has been married only nine months. Out of a number ot applications her position was the highest on the grading list. , The following resolution_ was carried unanimously : —"'This meeting of householders views with utter dismay the appointment _of a married woman teacher as assistant at Totara on the following grounds: Prom an economic standpoint (her husband, being able to provide for her); (2) because the appointment 'would cause unemployment for a voung teacher; (3) in view of the hostility the interests of the children would not be furthered as a large number would be withdrawn from the school, which would suffer in grade, necessitating the transfer of the headmaster.
