L. de Morpurgo (Italy) beat 11. Hopman (Australia) 8-6, 2-6, 6-4, 1-6, 6-1. J. Crawford (Australia) beat G. de Stefani (Italy) 6-4, 6-3, 6-2. The crowd's sustained bellowing of encouragement to the champion, de Morpurgo, added to Hopman's difficulties in Saturday's match. Such continued barracking is not encountered in any other country. Nevertheless, Hopman put up a magnificent fight, but do Morpurgo was the superior player.
