FALSE RETURNS OF INCOME. (united press association—bt elsctbio TBLZOHAPH—COPYRIGHT.) (Received June 17th, 9.10 p.m.) SYDNEY, June 17. James Yates, a manufacturer, of Newtown, was convicted on several charges of defrauding the Inoome Tax Department by, means of false returns, understating nis income between 1924 and 1929 by £17,000. Ho was fined £6OOO in default twelve months' imprisonment.
