PAGE'S ROAD.

QUESTION OF MAINTENANCE. The result of the recent conference between representatives of the City, New Brighton, and Heathcote Councils regarding Pafee's road, was reported to last night's meeting of the Heathcote County Council. The chairman (Cr. C. Flavell), referring to the original proposal that tli& road should be reconstructed in bitumen, said he did not think that the New Brighton ratepayers would ever agree to a loan of £3OOO for one mile of road outside the borough, in view of the road haying been recommended as a secondary highway, ne thought it would be better if the, proposed work should be confined to maintenance.

The clerk read an estimate of the cost of certain maintenance work, including tar-sealing, the total being about £2OOO. It was decided to ask the contributing bodies to agree to the work proposed, and the chairman was authorised to call tenders for it in the event of the other bodies agreeing.
