Mr F. E Hutchinson, B.Sc.F., has resigned the position of Assistant Boy Scout Commissioner in Christchurch.
Mr J. Montgomery, who left eight months ago on a visit to England and the Continent, returned to Christchurch yesterday. At last evening's meeting of the Canterbury Builders' Association a motion of sympathy with Mr H. Rosindale in his illness was passed. Captain J. R. Middleton, D.5.0., R.N. (retired), Director of Naval Reserves, arrived from Wellington yesterday, and leaves to-day for Duncdin. Mr H. Holland, M,P. for Christchurch North, arrived from Wellington yesterday and returns by to-night's ferry steamer. Captain J. R. Middleton (Wellington), Messrs W. Howard Booth (Masterton), W. Cahill (Wellington), James Pipor (Scotland), and G. J. Carr (Hokitika) are at Warnor's Hotel.
Mr H. J. Otley, chairman'of the North Canterbury Hospital Board, will entertain members of the Board and of its staff at dinner at the Royal Hotel to-dlay.
Mr E. H. Andrews left for the West Coast yesterday morning, where ho will interview candidatea for teaching probationerships under the Canterbury Education Board. Guests at the United Service Hotel are:-—Messrs W. B. Lees (Wellington), G. Benson (Dunedin), Stewart Gibson (Pahnerston North), Geo. Priotor (Wellington), and S. A. Oklebloom (Melbourne). Mr A. Wilson, headmaster of St. Stephen's School for Maori Boys, Parnell, has resigned after more than twenty years' service. His successor will be Mr W. C. Morris, headmaster of the Waihi District High School. For over 30 years Mr Wilson has been associated with the education of Maori boys.—Press Service. Mr G. W. Koenig vice-president of the International Harvester Export Company, Ltd., America, is. at present in Christchurch. Mr Koenig is undertak'ne; a tour of inspection of the company's foreign branches. He arrived in New Zealand some weeks ago, after spending a period in the various States of the Commonwealth, and is booked to sail from Auckland for America on the 20th of the present month.
Mr H. O. Frind arrived in Auckland by the Marama from Sydney to continue in New Zealand investigations which he has been pursuing *in other Empire countries into local government and the administration of the civil service. In 1914 Mr Frind visited New Zealand, but his interest then was in mountaineering. He olimbed Mt. Cook and also Mt. Sefton on that occasion.—Press Service.
Captain D. P. Malcolio, of the Bengal Pilot Service, whose home town is Christchurch, arrived at Auckland from Sydney by the Marama yestefday on holiday. Captain Malcolm served hiß apprenticeship days in the Craig Line. Ho went to South Africa at the time of tho Boer War, and at its conclusion proceeded to India, where for tho past twenty-seven years he has beon in the Hugli pilot service.—Press Service.
