MIXED BATHING.
SANCTIONED AT TEPID BATHS ON SUNDAYS.
It has been decided that mixed bathing shall be allowed in the Tepid Baths, Manchester street, on Sunday mornings. The Baths Committee reported in the matter to last night's meeting of the City Council as follows: —
For the past few years it has been customary during the summer school holidays to allow mixed bathiug each day, exoept Sundays, between 6 a.m. find 2 p.m., and the committee has (Decided to follow this practice as from the 19th instant.
As a result of the unseasonable weather which has been experienced lately the takings have suffered by a decrease of about £2O weekly. With a view to increasing the revenue _ tho custodian has suggested that mixed bathing be permitted on Sundays between the hours of 6 a.m. and 7.45 a.m., the men's hour to be from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. This will necessitate the baths being opened an hour earlier than at present, but it is considered that this step is desirable in ordler to increase the revenue if the estimated amount of £2OOO is to be reached. The committee has approved of the custodian's suggestion and has authorised that the altered time-table commence on the 4th instant.
The takings for the month of October were £2lO 14s, as compared with £193 16s 2d for the corresponding month, of last year. The takings from April Ist of this year to October 31st were £B5l Is lid, being a decrease of £47 as compared with the same period of last year. The report was adopted.
