I MONTHLY MEETING. The Canterbury Automobile Association held its monthly meeting last night, the president (ilr B. Falck) presiding. Aciounts amounting to £387 2s 3d were passed for payment. Seventy-nine Canterbury motorists and twenty-six from the West Coast were elected as new members. Fifty-one Olympia new members made a total new membership of the Association to date of 326. It was decided to elect Public Works engineers in Canterbury and engineers of public bodies having control of highways as honorary members of the Association. A letter was received from the Technical College Board inviting a donation to help carry out classes for apprentices to llio mctor trade.
Mr Konnett said it would be money well spent. It was decided to contribute five guineas. Messrs A. D. Dobson, W. R. Carey, H. C. Harley, and J. S. Hawkes were appointed delegates to the quarterly meeting of the 5.1. M.U., at Invercargill. Mr Hawkes reported that suitable camping places had been arranged at Akaroa for Association members.
Mr Johnston gave a report on negotiations with the N.I.M.U. over safety meafiures and a uniform speed limit. If they were not successful in getting a uniform speed limit throughout the Dominion, they cculd at least expect one speed limit on highways, one in -cities and boroughs, and ono at crossings. The Government draughtsman had done good work in drawing up regulations on safety traffic. Another regulation which they hoped to see carried was that dimming of headlights should be prohibited on dark roads and made compulsory in well-lighted thoroughfares. A vote of thanks was passed to Messrs Johnston, Harlev, and Hawkes for their efforts in the matter.
