THEATRE ROYAL.
PROPOSED ALTERATIONS. The alterations to the Theatre Royal are to be commenced about the middle of next year, according to a report presented last night ,to the City Council.
The By-laws Committee reported! as follows:
Messrs J. C. Williamson, Ltd., have written with reference to the proposed alterations to the. Theatre Royal, and state that Ihey estimate that the work will take four months, and that it will be May or June before a start can be made. The committee recommends that the application to postpone the commencement of the work be agreed to, provided the company gives an undertaking that the work will be commenced not later than June Ist, 1928. Messrs J. C. Williamson, Ltd., have asked whether it will be possible for them to pencil the Concert Hall for the period which will be occupied in carrying out alterations to the Theatre Royal. The committee is of opinion that it would be inadvisable to grant a lease of the hall for such an extensive period as three months, and has therefore asked the company to state definite dates covering a period of. three months for which it would require the hall. The report was adopted.
