EXHIBITION OF FREAK ANIMALS.

PROTEST BY S.P.C.A. Appended to the report of Mr D. J. White, Inspector for the Canterbury S.P.C.A., considered at last night's meeting of the Society, was the following :

"r inspected a three-year-old threelegged Jersey cow on exhibition at the A. and P. Show, Addington (two legs at back and one in front). There is no doubt this animal did suffer to a certain degree by being roused about in the tent for three days for inspection by the public, who paid Is for admittance.

"At different times I have noticed freaks of animals exhibited at A. and P. shows, and in my opinion such animals should not. be placed on exhibition."

Mr T. Gee said that ho thought, as far as three-legged animals were concerned, that if the A. and P. Association were written to they would not take that class of exhibit. He certainly thought that some exception should be taken to a three-legged animal. The Association could refuse space for such exhibits.

The chairman (Mr A. W. MacGillivray) said that the exhibition r of such freak animals was a shame.

'MrF. E. Biltcliff: It's a pity we can't go further and get such animals destroyed. At a later stage in the discussion Mr Biltcliff said that the people who went to see such freaks were morbid —"like those who hang round the place where there has been a murder!" Mr Gee said that iF the Association were written to and the attention of its members directed to the matter he thought it would be stopped. It was decided, on the motion of Mr Gee, seconded by Mr R. Wilson, to circularise all A. and P. Associations in Canterbury on the subject, and also to bring the matter under the notice of Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in other parts of the Dominion.
