RICCARTON WATER POLL.

70 TEE EDITOE OP THE PBESS. Sir. —In reporting the above poll you mention remarks by the Mayor of Riecarton in which he is reported as baying that the ratepayers "would have to install electric pumps if they desired sewerage connexion, as the Department would not link up when they had merely windmills or rami.'' This statement is either correct or otherwise, and would the Mayor «nioro fully explain his remarks!' The sewerage is going in now round the borough, and ou what authority, nicy [ ask the Mayor, did he make the above statement? In any case who is "the Department." It has been given out that the Drainage Board considers that high pressure supply is not essential, but they prefer it. but any good source of .supply would be satisfactory. The Mayor seems to have taken his defeat very badly, but this defeat is nothing to what is coming next municipal election in Riecarton borough for certain public men. —Yours, etc.. RATEPAYER.
