SUB-ASSOCIATIONS' SHIELD. ELLESMERE V. SUBURBAN. The first match of the season in the subAssociations' shield competition was played at Lancastei Park yesterday, when Ellesmere won by five wickets. Suburban had first use of a soft and treacherous wicket and were disposed of for 99, Morns 29 being top scorer. Ellesmere were all out for 7b, Meyer 20 batting well. In the second innings Suburban made a poor display and were all out for 54. Ellesmere made the runs required for the loss of five wickets, J. Coo batting well for 22 not out and Drayton for 31. A match wa6 played yesterday afternoon at South Hagley Park between the Combined Press Club and the Crypticß Club. In a free-hitting game the Cryptics won by 65 runs. Batting first, the Combined Press team made 166 (Williams 56, Guiney 48, Woodward 24, and Craze 10), and in reply the Cryptics made 231 for nine wickets (Wells not out 50, Wilson 29, Johnson 23, Armstrong 23, Dowling 18, Weston. 14, Hayes 12, and Russell 12 not out) when stumps were drawn. Johnson took five wickets for 55 runs for the Cryptics, and Williams and Archer were the most successful bowlers for the Pressmen. . The following will represent the Combined Press Olub against the Aerodrome, at the Boys' League ground, at 2 p.m. to-day:— Woodward, Guiney, Archer, Mahoney, Craze, Anderson, Hurcomb, Almond, Davies, Hancock, Williams, Thomson, and Fitamaurice. SUBURBAN ASSOCIATION. The Management Committee of the. Suburban Cricket Association met on Tuesday evening. Present: Messrs H. W. Rogers (chairman), W. Cowlin, G. Hillsdon, H. Day, W. Lawson, J. Gray, H. Aris, G. Duggan, E. King, J. King, and J. French. The Wellington Suburban Cricket Association's invitation to send a team to Wellington to play in the Walker Shield tournament was accepted, and the selectors were instructed to select thirteen players as soon as possible. The secretary reported that on account of the absence of delegates from the AEhburton Association ,the conference arranged for the purpose revising the junior challenge cup rules had fallen through. A sub-committee, composed of Messrs i±. Rogers, G. Duggan, and E. King, were appointed to draft a set of revised rules to be submitted to the North Canterbury and Ashburton Associations for approval.
