THRESHING MILLS.

—4 AWARD RENEWED. The Arbitration Court has renewed the South Canterbury Threshing Mills award, which will expire at the same time as the North Canterbury sward, terminating on July 31st, 1928. In their memorandum the Court state "Mr Montelth, workors' representative, is of the opinion that the claim of the union for an earlier hour for ceasing work on Saturday ' deserved more consideration, but in view of the shortness of the term for which the award is made, and of tho fact that tho North Canterbury award expires on the samo date, he does not wish to pross the matter further at this stage." The award says:—"All hands except the driver, feeder, and cook, shall bo paid Is lOd per hour and found, the time to commence from when the mill enters on the farm upon which tho crop is to be threshed, and shall continue during all hours worked, including shifting time from set to set, until tho finish of the last set on each farm, and fifteen minutes in the morning and fifteen minutes in the afternoon sh3ll be allowed for lunch and paid for, but this does not include uny time that tho mill may be stopped exceeding ten minutes allowed for or any other unavoidable cause, pr any. time occupied in shifting from farm to farm; but if the public Toad is used to expedite shifting between paddocks or farms immediately opposito ono another, and the property of ono owner, such time shall be paid for. The cook shall be paid £i 19s per week, and the feeder 2s 4d per hour. Reasonable time up to one hour -shall be allowed for dinner, and such time shall not be paid for. The award further states that the hours of work shall be between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m., except on Saturdays, when the hours of work shall bo between 6 a.m. and 0 p.m., but in stook-threshing, work shall continue until 7.30 p.m. on Saturdays. Fifteon minutos oxtra shall be allowed to finish a set, No piecework shall be allowed.
