CYCLING.
♦ ENGLISH PARK STADIUM. On Saturday night a sports programme, which promises to be full of thrills from start to finish, will be held at English Park Stadium, when a motor-paced race wilt be the big attraction. On Monday patrons were treated to a particularly good programme of motor-paeed racing, cycling, and running. Saturday's programme is even more attractive as the final of the motor-paced race will be held The field is a strong one, the finalists being W. Mackie, who has many motor-paced wins to his credit; O. Austin, the South Island road champion, and W. T. Weir, a successful pace follower. The final will be over a distance of five miles, and the riders will be' handicapped, with Mackie on scratch. As a speed of over thirty-seven miles an hour was registered on Monday, when the heats were run, Mackie will have to do over forty miles an hour to win. The two miles scratch race promises to be a splendid contest. A. J. Bodda, the half-mile New Zealand champion, has nominated, and will pit his speed against Mackie, Henderson, Bearman, Jordan, Austin, and other sprinters. Included on the programme are the half and one mile open handicaps, half-mile amateur race, and 440 yards cash flat handicap. All the best long-distance runners have nominated, including George Getson. The racing will commence at eight o'clock, and special trams will leave Cathedral square for English Park Stadium at frequent intervals.
