BRITISH TROOPS SENT. (BT OABLX—PBESB ASSOCIATION—OOPYBIOHT.) (AUSTBALIAN AND X.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) SHANGHAI, November 20. Despite the statement that the British troops which proceeded to Hankow on the cruiser Vindictive were for the purpose of relieving the Marines, it now appears that they were sent at Mie urgent request of the British Consulate authorities at Hankow for ohe protection of lives and property, on account of the threatening condition of affairs. The troops will not be landed unless it is absolutely necessary. It is not intended at present to to take over the Settlement by force. This is the first time in history British troops have proceeded beyond Nanking. The authorities state that they are being held in readiness fcr an emergency, if drastic measures are found necessary.
