RANSOM PAID TO MOORS.
AMAZING SCENES AT RABAT. (st cable—pbiss association—coptbioht.) (Sydney "Suh" SebviceJ LONDON, November 21. The correspondent of the "Daily Mail" at Eabat reports that the total ransoms paid for the release of Steeg's and ArnaWa party was £50,000. Payment included 70,000 Hassani Douros coins, the siae of five-shilling pieces. French officials'counted the money out to the Moors, the operation being most protracted. The raiders' suspicions were aroused by the thousands of bright new coins, as they believed that these had been specially coined for the ocasion without the due percentage of silver. The great bulk of the money necessitated the requisitioning of extra mules for its removal. One infuriated Moor attacked Madame Lebrigand, wife of a French officer, and threw her baby through a window. Sentries rushed to Madame Lebrigand's assistance and the Moor barricaded the house and shot himself dead.
