FARM LABOUR.

10 THE IDITOB OF TBI! PRESS. Sir,—One of the most interesting and significant facts in the Chamber of Commerce bulletin this month was the statement, based apparently on statistics, that since 1914, though the cost of living had risen 63 per cent. by 1926, farm wages had only risen ' 47£ per cent. In other words, the farm labourer was considerably worse off today than in 1914. This cannot make for efficiency it explains probably the exodus to the towns. Under the circumstances one is inclined to ask would it be safe and wise to take such labour away from the influence of the Arbitration Court? If this was done might not the farmers find themselves with no labour at all, or with labour of very poor quality, as in America.— Yours, etc., LABOUR.
