ADVERTISING CLUB.
The annual social gathering of members of the Canterbury Advertising Club, (o mark the conclusion of the 1927 session, was well attended.last evening. The president, Mr J. W. Baty, presided. The principal toaßt of tho evening was that of the past-president, Mr W. R. Carey, to whom tho club presented a replica iu gold and enamel of tho club's badge. In responding, Mr Carey said he had greatly enjoyed his association with the club and appreciated its educational value to business men in advertising, but lie felt that it was perhaps the ono institution in which he had accepted office without doing all that he might have done. He thanked the club for its congratulations on his recent accession to the managership of the Kaiapoi Woollen Company. Ltd., and said he hoped to be able to associate himself more closely with the club's activities in the coming year. The toast of "Associated and Kindred Clubs" was proposed by Mr Harry Knight, who mentioned that the club could be made a valuable institution to Christchurch as a community. The reply was in the hands o£ Mr J. J. Staples, who, in answer to an invitation, told something of his experiences abroad last year, when he represented New Zealand at tho World Advertising Convention.
The -president proposed the health of Mr W. J. Hcplehurst. the originator of the movement to form the club and the club's first secretary, on the eve of his leaving for Australia.
A capital programme was given, as follows: Instrumental trio, Mrs Boschctti, Miss M. "Walton, and Mr Boschetti; songs, Messrs D, McGill, Laurie Campbell, Martin, Twomey, and H. McD. Vincent; stories and recitations, Messrs C. E. Jones. A. Dey, Arthur Owen, H. M>D. Vincont, and J. Husion; concertina selections, Mr Heald.
