WAIMATE.
GUN CLUB. To-morrow the 'Waihao Forks Gnu Club will hold a meeting, which will include a £2O open handicap event (17 birds), a seven-bird sweepstake, Club championship (15 birds), and Ainge Challenge Cup match. W.C.T.U. There was a large attendance at the annual meeting of the "W.C.T.U. Each report presented disclosed the great interest now being taken in the work of the Union. The election of officers resulted:—President, Mrs Roy; vice-presi-dents, Mcsdames Cocks, *Xiehol, and Ha slam: secretary, Mrs O'Brien; treasurer, Mrs Simpson; cradle roll, Mesdames Vigors and Johns; hospital visitor, Mrs Hoare. Votes of thanks were passed to the retiring officers. Afternoon tea closed an enjoyable afternoon. The Crops. On the whole the crops in this district are looking fairly well, but the effects of the rain are beginning to be noticeable. A spell of warm weather would do a vast amount of good. ORARI. There was a full attendance of members at the first meeting of the newly formed Horticultural Society. Mr W. E. Cook presided. It was decided to open an account at the Orari Post Office, and Messrs R. Taylor and T. Bates were, appointed trustees. Mr Bates was also elected honorary treasurer. The annual subscription was fixed at 2s 6d per member. It was decided to hold committee meetings on the last Friday in each month. A vote of thanks was passed to Messrs D Stewart, D. Vernal!, and J. B. Roberts for donations to the funds.
