* SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE.

(SPECIAL 10 THE FBISS.) WAIMATE, November 15. , Favoured by splendid entries and by good weather, the forty-sixth annual show of the Waimate A. and P. Association proved moat successful. There was a large attendance, and the array of cars on the ground gave a good indication of tho flourishing state of the district, Au enthusiastic band aL°M C r a i S ' 7" H*£ J> °- Hay as President, and Air A. J. Hoskms as secretary, put in a day s strenuous work. Stock, considering the unfavourable M-eather of late, came forward in remarkably good condition, SHEEP. The sheep classes were well Patronised record entries being received, but there were no entries of English Leicester* this year. J. he Border Leicester section provided keen competition, Jlessrs R. J. Low, A. Ward, H. Ruddenklau, and E. Stokes dividing the honours between them. A ram over thirty months, shown by Mr H. Ruddenklau, was awarded the championship, while a younger ram, exhibited by Mr E. Stokes, was awarded the reserve championship. The champion ewe with lamb was shown by Mr H. Ruddenklau, while Mr R. J. Low secured the reserve championship. The Association's twenty-guinea cup for a pen of flock ram hoggets was annexed by Mr H. Ruddenklau. There were only two exhibitors of'Corriedales. Mr J. A. Johnstone, who ■ annexed the championship at the Royal Show, practically cleaned the slate, securing eleven firsts and ten seconds. Mr C. H. S. Johnstone was the.other exhibitor. In. the Southdown classes Mr P. W. Borrie' was the most successful exhibitor, showing' both, the champion'owe and ram;' as well, as-, securing six first prize's, besides .filling minor-; places in the various classes. / t : Poor competition was experienced in Romneys, but Mr 0. H, S. Johnstone had'some fine sheep forward. Both the champion ram and champion ewe were shown by him. The quality of the sheep in the crossbred section was fairly good, th'e competition being between Messrs E. Stokes,.E. 3. Meredith, and R. Sinclair,. The.last-named was the most successful exhibitor. The fat sheep section produced good competition, many of the exhibits being well finished. Lambs were in fair condition. Mr A. \v\- Barnett secured four firsts, and Mr M. L. Eliott three. Other successful exhibitors were Messrs J. C. Hay, Jones and Co., W. Smith, J. Fox, and W. G. Thomson. CATTLE. Jerseys and Friesians were most numerous in the cattle section, but competition was not very keen. Messrs D. Kennedy arid Smith and MacGregor were the principal exhibitors in the Jersey classes. Messrs Smith and MacGregor's bull Sonora's Anzac was awarded the championship, while Mr D. Kennedy secured the blue ribbon, with his cow, Jersey Park Fancy. This exhibitor- also annexed five first prizes, and Messrs Smith and MacGregor two firsts. Mr Jos. Hampton was another successful exhibitor. In the Frießian section the competition was between Messrs T. R. Eades, J. Briggs, and A. S. Elworthy, the awards being fairly evenly distributed. In dairy cows competition was keen, the blue ribbon being awarded to Mr D. Kennedy's Jersey Park Fancyl Other successful exhibitors in this section were Messrs Jos. Hampton and E. Briggs. Little competition was forthcoming in the fat cattlo section, Messrs Jones and Co. supplying, most of the entries. HORSES. Tbe chief exhibitors of Clydesdales were Messrs Alex. Brown, A. M Copland, J. Reid, J. R. Fafcrick, W. Smith, N.Z. Express Co., and C. H. S. Johnstone. The ar.imal which annexed the first place at the Royal Show for best colt or gelding foaled sinco August, 1926, though. entered, was not exhibited by Mr Sinclair. The best Clydesdale on the ground was Mr J. R. Patrick's Bold Lass. Mr Patrick was a notable prize-taker, while other exhibitors mentioned in this section were also prominent in the prizo list. The Association's onp for best colt or filly two years or under went to Mr Patrick's colt by Fyvie Baronet out of Bold Lass. In the hackneys and hunter sections there was a fine display of horseflesh, the principal exhibitors being Misses V. H. Nichols, I. Rutherford, McLachlan, J. Edgar Jones, and Messrs A. Medlicott, F. L. Hart, and J. AValdie. Miss I. Rutherford's Perfection was awarded the blue ribbon in this section. Other horses to secure red tickets were Miss V. M. 11. Nicholls's Plaio, Miss Rutherford's The Tatler, and Miss I. Edgar Jones's entrv.

In the five hunters' events there were largo fields and 6<>me good performances were seen. The jumping on the whole wae good. In the 14 stone hunter class Miss I. Rutherford's Perfection was first, with Ca.pta.iu Rattray's Grey Star second. Miss C. McLacklan'3 Self Defence won the 11 etoae class, and also the class open to members of the Waiinate Hunt. Self Defence also proved to be the best jumper on iLe ground. Miss J. Rutherford's The Tatlar took second place in both theso classes. Mr J. Waldie's Bandanna won the maiden jumping event. Light harness horses were not numerous, abd .Mass V. M. H. Nicholla's Plato was awarded the blue ribbon in this section. Messrs J. D. Gunn and R. McCarron were also first prize takers. The cobs and pony classes were well supported, and the competition proved very Ween, with honours well distributed. Mr E. Jackson secured four firsts, Miss I. Olbell two, and Mr R. J. Gordon one. The pony trots were won by R. J. Gordon and R. Forsyth respectively, and •.he pony jump by E. Jackson's Red Heather. PIGS, ETC. In Berkshire pig 3, Messrs J. Briggs and D. Lundy divided the honours, the formrr bejug awarded the blue ribbon. In dairy produce, Miaa M. A. Hampton was the chief prize-taker. The cookery section was exceptionally well supported, and exhibitors well up in the prize list were Mesdames E. Young,* M. W MrDonald, E. Atwill, T. Prue, J. C. Hay, and Misses Mary Holland, Mary Kane, and J. H. Chapman. The judges for the ehow were:—Border Leicester rams, Mr W. O. Rennie (Doyleston); ewes, Mr W. Kennedy (Otautau); Corriedales, Mr S. W. Ayson (Waikaka); English Leicesters, Southdowns, and crossbreds, Mr "W. Adams (Sheffield); fat sheen and lambs, Mr T. Stephen (Oamaru).
