U.S. ELECTIONS.

FINAL RETURNS. (BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION— COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) WASHINGTON, November 9. Final election returns show that Mr Smith, the Wet candidate for the Detroit mayoralty, was defeated by Mr Lodge, who is a grand-uncle of Colonel Lindbergh, the airman. It was at first thought that Mr Smith had won, but late returns from outlying districts gave Mr Lodge a 9000 majority. Mr Lodge made no campaign whatever, but was generally regarded as the Drv candidate.

Mr ftolph was re-elected Mayor of San Francisco. He has already been in office for sixteen years. Mr Carlson, for nineteen years Mayor of Jamestown, New York, was defeated by Mr Larsen. Present returns indicate that Mr Sampson, Republican, apparently has been elected as Governor of Kentucky, over Mr Beckham, Democrat, who opposed betting and horse-racing.
