Political authorities stress the British Government's viow that the Abyssinian; Treaty of 1902 precludes tho construction of the Blue Nilo dam by an, American corporation. The British position is held to be incontestable.

White Engineering Oor» poration announces that it will begin operations immediately to build a dam costing 20,000,000 dollars on the Bluo Nile, Lake Thann, under an agreement reached with Dr. Martin, envoy extraordinary, and Mr Alfred Juttner, local agent of the Abyssinian Government.
It is understood that under the terms of the agreement the company will sell impounded waters or develop them for water power as it sees fit, and the moneys derived therofrom will be used to develop Abyssinia. Government dispatches received hero from London quote English officials as stating that the projoct is counter to provisions of the treaty of 1902 between Britain and Abyssinia, and must receivo the approval of the British Government. Local newspapers, moreover, state that the issue may come up before i th# League of Nations for settlement.
