CONCERT HALL.
PftO€&tfiSS OF WOBK. INSTALLATION OF ORGAN. A report concerning the progress of the work of building the new Municipal Concert. Hall came before the City Council last night. The Concert Hail and Entertainments Committee submitted the following report:— In connexion with the calling for tenders for the installation of the proposed organ, it was necessary to forward with each specification plans showing the space available for the organ, etc. These were prepared by Messrs I)awe and Willis, their fee being £9O, this amount also including the supervision of the installation of the instrument.
Messrs Dawc and Willis's report is as follows: —' 'We are pushing the various contractors ahead to finish before Christmas, and we are now of the opinion that, provided the various works proceed the way they are doing, our efforts will be successful, without being over-sanguine in the matter. We have notified the contractor, Mr W. Williamson, as to our wishes, and he is doing all that is possible to complete, at the same time expressing regret that the delay caused by the main girder upset the usual co-ordination in execution of the various contracts under his charge, necessitating a delay in the completion of the joinery work as set out in the specification." Messrs Daw© and Willis have suggested that the balustrade in the Concert Hall entrance and also the castings at the end of each row of seats should be bronze metal sprayed, at an estimated cost of £SO and £l6 respectively. This procedure will enhance the appearance of the building, and will dispense with the necessity or repainting the'fixtures referred to. The committee therefore recommends that the expenditure be authorised. The report was adopted.
