At the monthly meeting of the Orari School Committee, Mr. S. Trumper presided.After discussion with the,.teach,.ing" staff, and dn the recommendation of a recent householders' meeting, it was decided that theisehool hours for the remainder of the year be 9.30 a.m. to p.m. and 1.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. The headmaster reported an average, attendance of 123, with a total roll number of 129. A vote of £2 10s was made for a further purchase of gramophone records.. Satisfaction was expressed at the results obtained by the "children at the recent Temuka Competitions, when four firsts, four seconds, and seven third places were secured in the musical and elocutionary classes. The school was set down for Friday, December 16th, with a dance to follow in the evening. 'The.headmaster was instructed to purchase prizes for the children's treat. On account, of epidemic, sickness during the year it was decided not to give. attendance prizes at the annual breakup.

On Wednesday evening the Orari Tennis Club held a committee meeting at the .courts. Mr A. Henderson (club captain) presided. An apology for absence was received from Miss N. Woods. Correspondence was read from the Washdyke, Orari Bridge, and Clandeboye Clubs inviting visits. ' The resignation of Mr W. E. Cook'was received,with regret and Mr D. M. iamb was elected to fill the vacancy. The secretary reported that trophies had been offered by Mrs W. E. Cook and Mr W. Keen. , It' was decided to hold a handicap singles tournament on Saturday. December 10th. Mr N. Woods and Mr W. E. Cook were appointed handicappers. A sub-commit-tee appointed'to draw up rules for a ladder submitted proposals which were adopted. Mrs W. AVatson and Misses A. Quirk© and H. Stevens were appointed a ladder committee with Miss Stevens as ladder officer.
