The- following weather report for October is supplied by Mr R. J. Rainey:—Varied weather, with quick changes, characterised the-month." Tho mean maximum temperature was 60.85 degrees, and the mean minimum 40 degrees, an increase of five degrees and six degrees respectively over the corresponding temperatures for September. The extreme maximum temperature, 74.8 degrees, occurred on the 20th, and the extreme minimum, 28.5 degrees, on the 10th. The average daily movement of the wind was 102 miles, the maximum movement, 2-54 miles in 24 hodrs, occurring on the 11th. Westerly winds prevailed on 11 days, easterly on seven days, and southerly on 11 days. Rain fell on seven days, a total fall of 278 points being recorded. The maximum rainfall occurred on the morning of the 21st, when 64 points fell in a period •of about four hours. Tho total of bright sunshine was 176 hours 47 utes. approximately 46 per cent, of ■possible, compared with 67 per cent, for September. The maximum sunshine occurred on tho 18th when 12hrl8min of unbroken sunshine was recorded. •There were three, sunless days. " An Aurora occurred on«the evening of the 22nd. Hail fell on the morning of tho 23rd and light frosts were recorded on i the grass on the mornings of the 3rd, 7th. 10th. 19th. 24th, and 2Sth. Mrs M. E. Eagle, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs G. H. Cayp.ill, Worcester street, Linwood, Christchurch, returned to Fairlie on Wednesdav.

The monthly meeting of the fire biiiade was held in the brigade room on Tuesday. Captain Close, who presided, reported that there had been no fires ir alarms during the month.
