OBITUARY.
MR ASHER ASHER. [THE PRESS Special Semes.] WELLINGTON, November 2. Mr Asher Asher, a foundation member of the volunteer fire police corps, and a familiar and respected figure in the community, died suddenly at his residence, 23 Marion street, at noon to-day, at tlie age of 72 years. . . '. • The late Mr Asher was born in Birmingham, England, and came with his parents to the Dominion at an early age. He resided in Wellington for the last 45 years, most of which time ho was closely idcutified with fire brigade work. When the present fire police corps was formed in 1899 ho became an enthusiastic member and it was mainly duo to his efforts that the corps attained its present standard of efficiency. On Tuesday last, he attended his last fire, although the outbreak occurred late at night. He was a crack rifle shot in his youth, and also took a keen interest in Rugby football, an interest which tie maintained up to the time of his death. He was also a member of the Druids' Lodge. He leaves a widow and five daughters and three sons. He' will be accorded a fireman's'funeral.
