SMUGGLED CHINESE.
DEPORTATION ORDERED. (bt cable—press association—copyright.) (australian axd k.z. cabie association., * FREMANTLE, November 2. Fifty Chinese, taken from the Dutch steamer Aimkerk were ordered to be deported. It was stated that there were originally 52 aboard, but two died en route. It was learned that the Chinese came from Houg-Kong to Singapore, where they were promised work either in Canada or in Australia. One night they were bundled into the hold of the steamer and taken to Rotterdam, where they were transhipped for an unknown destination. They were kept in the vessel's hold, underfed, and never brought up for fresh air. They did not know what had become of their companions' bodies.
{The Chinese were found in a ballast tank in the vessel's hold on October 20th, all unconscious. Later the officers of the xUmkerk and her sister ship, the Arendskerk, which landed smuggled Chinese at Cremorne Point, wereneavily fined'.]
