OBITUARY.
MR C. J. NIGHTINGALE. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELE GUAM.) BOKITIKA, November 1. The death took place this afternoon of Charles James Nightingale, one of the proprietors of the "Hokitika Guardian." Mr Nightingale, who was 64 years of age, had been identified with the West Coast since the Jackson Bay settlement, where he went with his father. He was a member of Harbour Board and the Licensing Committee and a past master of the Freemasons' Lodge. He leaves a widow, and family of seven children. Mr Nightingale suffered a paralytic seizure some months ago.

The death has occurred of Mr John Luther Long, author of "Madame Butterfly." [Mr J. L. Long was born in 1861. Amongst his works and publications are tho following: "The Darling of the Gods," "Miss Cherry Blossom of Tokyo," "The Fox Woman," and "The Prince of Illusion."]
