SCRUB FIRE.
BLAZE AT NORTH BEACH. A spectacular gorse and scrub fire, which it was thought at one time would do a lot of damage, broke out at Beach road, North Brighton, about 3.50 last night, but fortunately burned itself out in half an hou*, when it was found that an area of about two acres had been swept. A strong sou'-wester was blowing at the time, and fears vrere entertained that the fire would spread to adjoining property, owned by Mr Kerr, dairyman, who lost no time in transferring his stock to safety. Had the fire swept across the road, it is likely that it would have soread over a large area, but luckily this did not happeji. About a week ago a lire in the same locality burned five or six chains of scrub, but did no other damage. Itis the opinion of dairymen living at North Beach that in" both instances the fires were started deliberately by larrikins.
' Another scrub fire, which appeared '.<o be of considerable dimensions, was observed in the direction of Chaney's cbout 8.30 pm. DWELLING DA3IAGED. At 2.34 o'clock yesterday afternoon the Central Fire Brigade received a call to 49 Masscy street, St. Albans, where a fire had broken out in a fiveroomed dwelling occupied by Mr J. King. The fire started in the baek hal! and spread to the kitchenette, which was badly damaged by fire. The contents of the building were badly damaged by smoke and water.
