STOLEN SWEETS.
YOUNG WOMAN'S ALLEGED PART. (?RZSS ABSOCUTIOK TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, October 31. In the Supreme Court, Ina Beatrice"Wills (2o) was charged with breaking and enteriug a shop and stealing confectionery valued at £l6 14s, also with attempting to break and enter another shop with intent to commit theft. Thomas Herbert Skmner, who was charged with the same offences as accused and pleaded guilty, being sentenced to eighteen months' imprisonment, described the burglary at Epsom and the attempted burglary m Khyber Replying f0 Mr DH/ kson > counsel for the defence, Skinner admitted that had a letter he was sending from gaol to a girl touching the case not been intercepted he would have gone on with his defence. . The Judge sharply protested when Mr Dickson suggested that Skmner had been influenced in his present attitude bv detectives. Counsel persisted, but the Judge said: "It is unfair. I will not allow it." ,1.1,4 Accused, in evidence, said she uaa such a bad headache onHbe night of August oth that instead of goinc home she went for a drive. She met Skinner and at his request drove him to Epsom. She staved in the ear and thought she dozed off while waiting for Skinner to return with a parcel. Skinver askecl her to stop again in Khyber Pass, but she never dreamed he breaking and entering. The Court adjourned till to-morrow.
