REVOLVER DUEL.
DEATHS OF MELBOURNE CRIMINALS. (BT CABLI PRESS ASSOCIATION— COFiRIOHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND K.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received October 28th, 8.20 p.m.) MELBOURNE, October 28. Although several theories are advanced regarding the cause of last night's shooting, including jealousy over a woman and revenge for the murder of Bruhn in Sydney in June last, the police discount this, and are of tho opinion that it was the result of the long-stand-ing Fitzroy gang vendetta. Cutmore, like Taylor, was a notorious criminal, and was concerned in a great number of crimes of violence. Detectives state that Taylor was tho worst type in the criminal annals of Victoria. [A vicious revolver duel was fought in a house at Carlton on Thursday night, as a result of which the notorious "Squizzy" Taylor and John Cutmore were killed, and Mrs Cutmore was wounded. Taylor and two other men drove in a motor-car to the house occupied by Mrs Cutmore and her son. Taylor, accompanied by one companion, entered the house and walked into a bedroom, where Cutmore was ill in bed. Without speaking, one of the intruders fired point-blank at Cutmore, who returned the fire, and for several minutes a deadly duel was fought in the dimly-lighted room. Mrs Cutmore rushed into the room, but fell to the floor with a bullet in the shoulder. Taylor staggered from the house a few minutes later, but died on the way to the 'hospital, and Cutmore was dead when the police arrived.]
