Though Lord Hawke, president of the YorVshire Club, describes the report regarding H. Sutcliffe's captaincy as "tommy rot," it is known, however, that the county Selection Committee began negotiations with Sutcliffe ear'y last eeason, and it is expected that their recommendation for his captaincy will be before the meeting of tho County Committee on November 2nd, when the recenstitution of the team will be considered. Sutcliffe was promised a benefit match m 1929, but will lose thfe if he becomes an amateur. J B. HobbS refused to treat the question seriously, and eaid: "Sutcliffe to captain Yorkshire? Don't make me laugh. You know what Lbrd Hawke said about professional captains."
