MOTORING.
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION.
The General Council of the Canterbury Automobile Association met last night. Prebent were: Messrs B. Falck (chairman), H. E. Kennett, F. W. Johnston, H. C. Harloy, J, L. Danks, H. Garrick, T, Milliken, J. Mason, R. Twyneham, L. M. "Wilson, and Dr. W. Simpson. The Canterbury Progress League invited the Council to appoint a representative on the executive of the lieague. The invitation was accepted, with the recommendation to the League that the Council's representative should have a place on any committees concerned with highways business. The sum of £25 was voted to the Heathcote County Council to complete the work of tar-scaling Wainoni road from Kerr's road to Bower bridge. The Council decided to co-operate with the New Brighton Borough Council and Heathcote County Council in their efforts to havo Page's road declared a main highway.
A letter from Dr. W. Bates was received complaining as to the inadequate bells or other warning devices provided by the Railway Department at level crossings. Dr. Bates was of the opinion that signals to attract the eye of the motorist, rather than
ius ears, should be installed. The Council' decided to approach the Minister for Railways regarding this and other matters concorning crossings when next ho visits Christchurch.
The meeting decided to- request the City Council to call a conference of the Tramways Board, City Council, and the Association' to discuss the plans for tho proposed layout of Cathedral square. Sub-committees were re-elected for iho year.
The Council elected IGS new members to ;e Association.
