BAND OF HOPE COMPETITIONS.
The Canterbury Band of Hope Union's annual competitions wore continued last evening, before a largo audience. The judges for the evening sections -were: Vocal, Mrs H. A. Eecve; pianoforte, Miss B. Pollard; elocution, Mr J. E. Lester. . The. following aro the recalls: Pianoforte solo, B Union Section, "Crepuscule" (Rudolph Friml) —Margaret Brown (Philipson 1.0. R.), Ralpli Tobeck (Edgeware), Doreen Evans (St. George's Presbyterian), Jean Sinclair (Knox). Recitation, Class C (girls), Union Section, "Where There's Drink There's Danger"— Jessie Ware (Knox), Lilly Kinsella, (Linwood Methodist), Freda Judkins (Philipson 1.0. R.), Kathleen Chappel (St. Paul's). Vocal Solos, Class C, girls, own selection —■Linda Mills (New Brighton United), Muriel Korshaw (New Brighton United), Louise Kiddcll (St. Paul's), Kathleen Chappel (St. Paul's), Freda Judkins (Philipson 1.0. R.). The competitions will he continued in St. Paul's School Hall, Lichfield street, this evening, when the following sections will be judged:—Sacred solo, section 1, boys; humorous recitation, section 1, girls; vocal solo, class B, boys; cornet solo, schoolboys under 13 years; mouth-organ solo boys under 18 years. Mr A. Schnack will judge the cornet and mouth-organ solos.
