CHORAL HALL.

STUDENTS' CONCERT TO-NIGHT. Such a combination of advanced students selected from the studios of Irene Morris and Harold Beck, who are so well known by their artistic reputation, promises rare musical enjoyment for those attending at the Choral Hall to-night. Tho programme as advertised is indeed distinctive and unique—especially in the presentation of an ensemble of'twenty 'cellos and harp, playing the beautiful Wagnerian aria, "0 Star of Eve," and again in a trio of 'cellos in Popper's "Requiem." Another novelty is the 'cello sok>, Granville Bantok's "Hamabdil," with harp. Harold Beck himself will direct a full orchestra, which, with the assistance of leading Christchurch musicians, will play the "Overture" from Beethoven's "Prometheus," ballet music and incidental music from the "Gordian Knot Untied," by the early and great English composer, Purcell. The solos also will be further enhanced by orchestral accompaniment. The orchestra will bo led by Irene Morris, and the harp work during the evening will be rendered by Mr H. G. Glaysher, being notably prominent in Foulds's "Keltic Lament," for 'cello and orchestra. Mr Fiulay Robb is the pianist of the concertos to bo played; besides the celebrated double for two violins for Bach, ono of Handel's for 'cello is set for the evening. Beothoven's Trio in C Minor for violin, 'cello, and piano, and Elgar's Suite for string orchestra will form an important part of the programme. It is interesting to note in connexion with the performance of the orchestral number, tho "Keltic Lament," that Mr H. G-. Glaysher, who is playing the important harp part, officiated in the same capacity at a concert given by tho Royal Artillery Band ift the Palladium, London. On that occasion the composer, Mr Foulds, was present, and expressed his pleasure and congratulations to the conductor, saying that he could not wish to have heard a better interpretation.
